Foundations for Open Source
Couros linked to Forty Foundations for the future of Open Source. I haven't made it through all of it yet, and I need to move on, but this looks interesting. That article also links to 50 Open Source success stories in Business, Education, and Government, which I haven't looked at.
The first article links to The LearningOnline Network
with CAPA, which, according to their "What is" page is a
"full-featured, web-based course management system similar to
commercial systems, see edutools.info for comparisons." The most
interesting thing about it to me, today, is that their architecture
allows multiple schools to manage their own classes and such, but for
content to be shared across all systems. I have in mind two systems
that might benefit from this architecture. It may also be that
LON-CAPA is close enough to what I want to do that I should use their
system rather than designing my own.
